4th & 5th Grade Media Center
Welcome to the 4th & 5th Grade Media Center where our goal is to inspire the love of reading!!!
Our summer reading program runs from June 7-July 21 at the Intermediate and 4th & 5th Grade Centers. Students entering Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades will check out books and AR test at the Intermediate Center. Students entering 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will check out books at AR test at the 4th & 5th Grade Center. If your child knows their AR log in, they may test at either building.
The hours are Tuesdays from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Each grade level has a point goal. Each child who achieves the point goal for the grade level they are entering with an average of 80% comprehension, will receive special recognition at the beginning of the school year. The point goals for each grade level are as follows:
2nd- 5 points
A new opportunity for earning Informational Hours is available to VCS families.
Growth Mindset videos from the Florida Department of Education address how the research of Dr. Carol Dweck who states that the way students think impacts their attitudes toward learning and how they perform in the classroom.
Each video lesson and accompanying survey will earn parents 30 minutes of informational time. While both parents may review the two videos and five articles, credit will be awarded to only one parent for a maximum of 3.5 hours per household.

Parent PI Books
The Elementary Media Centers offer the following books that you may read and take AR tests on for Informational hours. I recommend you read them earlier in the year as they can be hard to find the closer we get to May! Please note: you must have a student enrolled in the Elementary School to read and test on these books for PI time. The media centers at the Middle and High Schools have books for parents of their students.
