Primary Center Book Fair

December 5-9, 2016

Our book fair for this year is just around the corner.  The book fair will be open to students and families from 8:00-2:15 Monday through Thursday. On Friday, the hours will be from 8:00-1:00. The book fair will also be open during our Family Shopping Event from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8th.  Any parent who visits the book fair during the Family Shopping Event can enter their child’s name into a drawing for a basket of books worth over $100.00!

If you send money or a check to school with your child, please put it in a sealed envelope with the child’s name and their teacher’s name on the front.   If you write a check, please make it out to: The Villages Charter School.  We will accept credit or debit cards as long as the adult is present at time of purchase.  Please allow for 7% sales tax to be added on to the total of your child’s purchase.

The book fair is also a great opportunity to do some shopping, not only for your children, but for their teachers! Teachers will fill out a wish list of books they would like for their classroom.  Parents may purchase any book off of the list (or a book of their choice) for their child’s classroom. This is a perfect way to say thank you!

We are looking for volunteers to help us make this book fair a success. This year our volunteer sign-up will be via email only. Contact Mrs. Bowersox at  Karen.Bowersox@tvcs.org to sign up for a date and time.

AR Goals

Students are continuing to work diligently toward their grade level AR goals. First Grade is 25 points and Kindergarten is 15 points with an 80% average comprehension. You can track your child’s AR points on Renaissance Home Connect: https://Hosted220.renlearn.com/2352255/ HomeConnect .

The Primary Center has a goal of 20,000 points to achieve this school year! We have already earned over 6,500 points! Keep up the great work everyone. Our goal for December 16th is to have at least half our goal, I know we can do it. All students with half of their goal met with 80% comprehension by December 16th will earn a dress-down day in January!

To stay on track you can use the suggested progression track:

Growth Mindset Videos- Informational PI Hours

Growth Mindset videos from the Florida Department of Education address how the research of Dr. Carol Dweck who states that the way students think impacts their attitudes toward learning and how they perform in the classroom.

Each video lesson and accompanying survey will earn parents 30 minutes of informational time.  While both parents may review the two videos and five articles, credit will be awarded to only one parent for a maximum of 3.5 hours per household.

To take advantage of this opportunity for earning informational hours, access these resources at:  https://sites.google.com/a/tvcs.org/mindset/

Parent PI Books- Informational Hours

The Elementary Media Centers offer the following books that you may read and take AR tests on for informational hours.  I recommend  you read them earlier in the year as they can be hard to find the closer we get to May!  Please note:  you must have a student enrolled in the Elementary School to read and test on these books for PI time.  The media centers at the Middle and High Schools have books for parents of their students.
