                                       Summer Reading Program

Students who will be attending The Villages Charter Elementary School next year are encouraged to participate in our Summer Reading Program. The program begins on June 9 and ends on July 23.  During this period students will be able to check out books from the media centers in the Primary Center and the 4th & 5th Grade Center on Tuesdays between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and on Thursdays between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The students will also be able to take Accelerated Reader quizzes in the computer lab of those buildings during the same time periods. Incoming Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students will check out books from the Primary Center.  Incoming Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade students will check out books from the 4th & 5th Grade Center. We encourage your child(ren) to test at the building they check out from, however, if you know their log in information, they may test at either building. Students who earn the points indicated below for their new grade level with a score of 80% or higher on comprehension on or before the last day of summer testing will receive special recognition at the beginning of the school year.

2015 Summer Reading Goals

Please use the goal for the grade your child will be entering for the 15/16 school year:

Kindergarten: 3 points (6 picture books)

First Grade: 5 points (10 picture books)

Second Grade: 5 points (May include short chapter books and/or picture books.)

Third Grade: 6 points (May include short chapter books and/or picture books.)

Fourth Grade: 8 points (May include short chapter books and/or picture books.)

Fifth Grade: 10 points (May include chapter books and picture books)

The goal is the above number of points with an 80% or higher score in comprehension.

We hope that you will take advantage of these opportunities this summer to encourage your child to experience the joy of reading while continuing to develop his or her reading skills.

Parent PI Books

The Elementary Media Centers offer the following books that you may read and take AR tests on for infomational hours.  I recommend  you read them earlier in the year as they can be hard to find the closer we get to May!  Please note:  you must have a student enrolled in the Elementary School to read and test on these books for PI time.  The media centers at the Middle and High Schools have books for parents of their students.
