Dear Kindergarten Families,
It's 2015!!! Make sure to see the NEW Newsletter for January below. This month we are working on the sight words; my, are, he, with, is, little, she, was. For fun practice, click on my link for https://www.spellingcity.com/Debbystachler/Of course, continue to practice for the 100 Word Wall and practicing writing sentences. This month in math our friends begin learning the concepts of addition. Help your child with this skill, since this is a foundation for all algebraic thinking.
Progress Reports coming out Feb. 6th.Please make sure you practice through your child's weekly homework and reading every night, by checking their comprehension. Things you can work with your child: rhyming skills, letter sounds, counting to 100, sight words, reading CVC words, segmenting & blending words (cat is /c/-/a/-/t/), listen for beginning and ending sounds in words. Make it fun! with games; see if they can come up with words to quiz you. Make flash cards together is a classic but useful tool.
Shoe tying challenge!! It's that time of year, where the students will need to know how to tie their own shoes. Please make sure your child is ready for this challenge, even if they don't have shoe laces...I will be checking all and they will get their name on the Shoe of Fame!
A few reminders...please be sure that your student is wearing a VCS approved jacket/sweatshirt to school and please be sure to label your student's outwear with his/her name. Please be sure to pack your student a nutritious snack every day. Also, Holiday pictures that are not being purchased need to be returned as soon as possible. You can send them back in your child's take home folder and we'll take care of it from there.
We are going "green"! Since most parents look at their children's grades on-line frequently, we will only send home paper progress reports for those families who have requested a paper newsletter. If you prefer a paper newsletter and progress report due to email limitations, please write a note in your child's binder.
Thanks as always! :)
PI Opportunities! Please email or send a note in agenda, if you can help....We can always use help in the classroom or from home with creating projects for us to use. Then at school, in the media center there is Box Tops that need to be counted, and in the cafeteria or library need extra hands or check with VCS sporting events.
Things we need: stamp pads (different colors), legal hanging files, small prizes for treasure box & 100 Word Wall. Gift cards to Office Depot or Staples for classroom needs are always welcome :) Don't forget to send in receipts for anything you donate. However you can help, please email me :) Thanks!
Pizza Hut Book It is a wonderful program that encourages students to read books, over and above what is asked for them to read as homework. Any library books or extra books you read at home 10 minutes, color in the date on the calendar sent home each month. When the month is filled, sign and turn in for your child's personal pan pizza certificate (one per child, per month). Thank you!
Box Tops for Education: Did you know that for every Box Top you donate our school earns .10? So, please clip your Box Tops and send them in with your student! We greatly appreciate your contribution. :)
