Things you can work with your child: rhyming skills, letter sounds, counting to 100, sight words, reading CVC words, segmenting & blending words (cat is /c/-/a/-/t/), listen for beginning and ending sounds in words. Make it fun! with games; see if they can come up with words to quiz you. Make flash cards together is a classic but useful tool.
