Our holiday break is just a few short days away! It is hard to believe we are already half way through the year. This week is a review and research week along with preparation for our Florida Standards Assessment that is just two months away. Along with the hustle and bustle happening with our curriculum, our week is also full of some holiday activities and assemblies. We also will be having a holiday celebration of our own on Friday. We will make some crafts, eat some treats and sing some holiday songs. Thank you to everyone who brought in items for Friday as well. Without your help it wouldn't be possible to celebrate!
You should have also received a note home regarding a Winter Break AR Challenge. Students who test on a book on their first day school resumes (January 7th), and scores an 80% or higher will go up on our hall of fame and receive a small prize. Please encourage your child to read everyday over break just for fun!
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, and a very happy New Year!
HELPFUL TIPS FOR AR SUCCESS
1. Make sure your child is choosing books within his/her AR reading level. Books should be chosen closer to the high end of his/her ZPD range.
2. Please allow a quiet place for your child to read for 20 minutes uninterrupted each night. This is his/her assigned homework.
3. Nonfiction books should be read weekly and tested on by Friday. Students have multiple sources to pull from in our classroom, and can always check one out from the school media center. This is important because it helps build your child's content knowledge, gives him/her familiarity with different kinds of reading materials, and expands vocabularies too. Thank you for helping reinforce this at home.
As always this is just a reminder: Please make sure you are checking your child's BEACH Binder every night. Take the papers in the KEEP AT HOME section out so that I can continue to send home their weekly papers. Also, please sign your child's agenda every night. This helps me make quick observations that you are monitoring your child's daily homework and behavior.
Please continue to check my teacher website weekly. Here you will get updates on classroom activities, important information, and documents that are updated and attached at the bottom of my page. Again, if you have any questions you would like to ask before the first day of school please email me at Samantha.Sheffield@tvcs.org
