We are celebrating Read Across America Day on Friday, March 6.   This is a day that recognizes the accomplishments of one of the greatest children’s authors of all time-Dr. Seuss.  All of the VCS Elementary buildings are going to honor Dr. Seuss and all of the great books he has written with a Mixed-Up Friday!  This means, that you may wear your clothes all mixed up!  Suggestions are inside out, backwards, two different socks/shoes (both shoes need to be athletic shoes!).  This is a dress down day, however, clothes must be school appropriate, including, but not limited to: any shorts must be fingertip length, no spaghetti straps, no pajamas, and shoes must be athletic shoes for PE.  If you have any questions, please contact one of the Elementary Media Specialists: Megan Lyon-
Or Karen Bowersox- We are looking forward to a fun-filled Mixed Up Friday!

IMPORTANT REMINDER!  Students are expected to master their multiplication and division skills in third grade.  While we do work on this during the school day majority of their practice should be done outside of the classroom.  You can quiz them on the way to or from school, before dessert, and even before bed.  Flashcards are a great way to have them practice, as well as songs and games that are found on the internet.  If you need help finding resources please do not hesitate to contact me.

Mrs. Sheffield

1. Make sure your child is choosing books within his/her AR reading level. Books should be chosen closer to the high end of his/her ZPD range.

2. Please allow a quiet place for your child to read for 20 minutes uninterrupted each night. This is his/her assigned homework.

3. Nonfiction books should be read weekly and tested on by Friday. Students have multiple sources to pull from in our classroom, and can always check one out from the school media center. This is important because it helps build your child's content knowledge, gives him/her familiarity with different kinds of reading materials, and expands vocabularies too. Thank you for helping reinforce this at home.

As always this is just a reminder: Please make sure you are checking your child's BEACH Binder every night.  Take the papers in the KEEP AT HOME section out so that I can continue to send home their weekly papers. Also, please sign your child's agenda every night.  This helps me make quick observations that you are monitoring your child's daily homework and behavior.

Please continue to check my teacher website weekly.  Here you will get updates on classroom activities, important information, and documents that are updated and attached at the bottom of my page.  Again, if you have any questions you would like to ask before the first day of school please email me at
