Welcome to our class webpage! January is such an exciting time of year in our classroom. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed some quality family time together. Report cards will be coming home on January 9th. Attached to report cards will be conference sign-up forms. I can't wait to meet with everyone.
On January 18th we will be celebrating the 100th day of school. This day is a such a fun celebration of all we are learning in first grade.
Important Classroom Reminders and Information:
Skyward: Our online grade book is ready for you to use. We are approaching the end of the grading period. Please let me know if you have any questions concerning your child’s grades.
AR News: We are already racking up AR points so that we can earn as many AR points as possible. The first grade goal is 25 points by May. All first graders earning 25 points will get to attend the annual pancake breakfast. I have also encouraged students to aim higher towards the 100 point club. Students who earn 100 points will get to attend a special activity. Happy Reading!!! Remember to use the AR log to indicate when your child is ready for an AR quiz. Please don’t forget to initial it also.
Reading and Spelling: You are able to see weekly spelling words and high frequency words (HFW) in the monthly newsletter and in your child’s binder. Students should be able to read and spell words on the spelling list. Students should be able to read the words on the HFW list. A pre-test will be given on Monday mornings to determine green and gold lists. All students will learn and practice the same phonics skills and HFW. The gold list just has harder words. (You will notice some words are on the spelling and HFW list.)
Math: Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday only. No homework on Friday! Thank you for checking homework each night and helping your child when they have difficulties. Remember you can check the daily classwork in the back of your child’s binder for guidance if needed.
Social Studies and Science: We are learning about animals in winter. Keep checking back to see all of the exciting topics that are to come.
