We have a lot of exciting news for the month of April. The students have been working very hard on our new concepts and I am very proud of them. Thank you for your help and support at home! Here are a just a few reminders of important things going on this month.
First of all, thank you to all our field trip chaperones for helping to make our field trip so fun. The Science Center is a fun and educational place to visit and I think the students had a wonderful time.
There is a Buffalo Pride Meeting on Tuesday, April 5 in the Middle School Gym from 6:00-7:30 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to earn Informational PI time. The end of the school year is approaching, so please make sure that you are getting your PI hours needed for the year. If you are in need of Vounteer hours, then please contact me through email and I will gather a project for you to do at home.
Spring Conferences will begin soon. Please look for a note within the next week or two to schedule a time to meet. I look forward to meeting with you to go over your child's progress this year.
Our final DEA assessment will be this month. The students have worked very hard and have shown great progress this year. I am excited about having them show what they know and what they have learned!
Information on one of our favorite first grade projects, Garbage Monsters, will be coming home this month. I hope you and your child enjoy working on this project together at home. They will present them to the class as well, so don't forget to practice at home. I can't wait to see all your creative creations!
Lastly, don't forget to look over the April Newsletter that I have provided for you on my webpage. This is a wonderful way to stay connected to what we are doing in our classroom and information that will be important to you as well.
AR: We are already racking up AR points. The first grade goal is 25 points and students have until the beginning of May to get their points. Please remember to fill out and initial the AR Reading Log in binders for media center books and books from home only. We will automatically quiz on baggy books.
Reading and Spelling: You can find spelling words in your child's binder and in the monthly newsletter. The monthly newsletter is also available as a PDF document below. Reading and spelling tests are on Fridays.
Math: Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. No homework on Friday. Thank you for checking homework each evening and helping when your child has difficulties. Remember daily classwork is in the back of your child's binder if you need to refer to it.
Science and Social Studies: This month in science we will be learning about the Earth's resources and learning about ways to keep our planet a safe place to live. We will also be planting seeds to review all that we have learned about living things and plants.
