Welcome to our class webpage! September is going to be a very busy month
for us in first grade! We are extremely busy becoming better readers, writers,
scientists and mathematicians! I
believe the home to school connection will help ensure success for your
child. Please remember to empty the back
of your child's binder labeled "Keep at Home" each evening. I will send home graded quizzes, tests, and
assignments every Tuesday. Also, thank
you for making sure your child is dressed according to the school uniform
policy. If you have any questions
concerning the uniform policy please refer to you parent/student handbook. Be sure to read below and check the September
calendar for more information and more important dates.
Important Classroom Reminders and Information:
AR News: We are already racking up AR points so that
we can earn as many AR points as possible.
The first grade goal is 25 points by May. Happy Reading!!! Remember to use the AR log to indicate when
your child is ready for an AR quiz on media center or books from home only. You do not need to write baggy book
titles. Please don't forget to initial
Reading and Spelling: You are able to see weekly spelling words and
high frequency words (HFW) in several places.
They are available on the website calendar below and our monthly
newsletter. The spelling words are also
in your child's binder. Students should
be able to read and spell spelling words and read HFW.
Math: Math homework is assigned Monday through
Thursday only. No homework on
Friday! Thank you for checking homework
each night and helping your child when they have difficulties. Remember you can check the daily classwork in
the back of your child's binder for guidance if needed.
Social Studies and Science: We are learning about what it means to be a
good citizen. In September we will learn
about Johnny Appleseed, Citizenship, American Symbols, and how scientists work. Keep checking back to see all of the exciting
topics that are to come.
Thank you again for all you do at home to ensure that your child is
successful in first grade!!!
