Welcome to our class webpage. August has been a smooth start to the new school year for us and September is going to be very busy. We are extremely busy becoming better readers, writers, scientists and mathematicians. Thank you all so much for helping students at home. I truly believe the home to school connection is vital for a successful school year. Please remember to empty the back of your child's binder labeled "Keep at Home" each evening. I will send home graded tests and quizzes on Tuesdays. All other checked work will come home throughout the week. Also, thank you making sure your child is dressed according to our school uniform policy. If you have any questions concerning the uniform policy you can refer to your parent/student handbook or I am happy to help. Be sure to check the calendar below and read the monthly newsletter for important information and dates.
Important Information and Dates
AR: We are already racking up AR points. The first grade goal is 25 points and students have until the beginning of May to get their points. Please remember to fill out and initial the AR Reading Log in binders for media center books and books from home only. We will automatically quiz on baggy books.
Reading and Spelling: You can find spelling words in your child's binder and in the monthly newsletter. The monthly newsletter is also available as a PDF document below. Reading and spelling tests are on Fridays.
Math: Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. No homework on Friday. Thank you for checking homework each evening and helping when your child has difficulties. Remember daily classwork is in the back of your child's binder if you need to refer to it.
Science and Social Studies: We are about how to be a good citizen, make smart choices and how to solve small problems using Kelso choices. This month we will also learn about Johnny Appleseed, American Symbols and how scientists work.
Upcoming Events: I am looking forward to our annual Founder's Day Festival. This year's event will take place on Friday, September 25th on the high school football field. I will be sending home reminders to those parents that volunteered to work our classroom booth.
