Welcome to our class webpage! September is going to be a very busy month for us in first grade! We are extremely busy becoming better readers, writers, scientists and mathematicians! I believe the home to school connection will help ensure success for your child. Please empty the back of your child’s binder labeled “Keep at Home” each evening. Also, thank you for making sure your child is dressed according to the school uniform policy. If you have any questions concerning the uniform policy please refer to you parent/student handbook. Be sure to read below and check the September calendar below for more information and more important dates.
Important Classroom Reminders and Information:
Skyward: Our online grade book is ready for you to use. We are approaching the ½ mark in the grading period. Please let me know if you have any questions concerning your child’s grades.
AR News: We are already racking up AR points so that we can earn as many AR points as possible. The first grade goal is 25 points by May. All first graders earning 25 points will get to attend the annual pancake breakfast. I have also encouraged students to aim higher towards the 100 point club. Students who earn 100 points will get to attend a special activity. Happy Reading!!! Remember to use the AR log to indicate when your child is ready for an AR quiz. Please don’t forget to initial it also.
Reading and Spelling: You are able to see weekly spelling words and high frequency words (HFW) in the monthly newsletter and in your child’s binder. Students should be able to read and spell words on the spelling list. Students should be able to read the words on the HFW list. (You will notice some words are on the spelling and HFW list.)
Math: Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday only. No homework on Friday! Thank you for checking homework each night and helping your child when they have difficulties. Remember you can check the daily classwork in the back of your child’s binder for guidance if needed.
