We are zooming through October! We are making progress on our
individual goals, but here are a few reminders for you to help your child get
the most out of their reading each day:
1. Make sure your child is choosing books within his/her AR reading level.
Books should be chosen closer to the high end of his/her ZPD range.
2. Please allow a quiet place for your child to read for 20 minutes
uninterrupted each night. This is his/her assigned homework. Thank you for
signing the AR nightly log to verify they have read.
3. Nonfiction books should be read weekly and tested on by Friday. Students
have multiple sources to pull from in our classroom, and can always check one
out from the school media center. This is important because it helps build your
child's content knowledge, gives him/her familiarity with different kinds of
reading materials, and expands vocabularies too. Thank you for helping
reinforce this at home.
This week we are testing on Unit 2! We are reviewing Grammar skills taught
for the last five weeks and will send home a review sheet for your child to
review on Wednesday night. The cold reads we do in class will be scored
together for a final grade.
We are starting a research project on Animal classification on Monday. The
students will be using print and online sources to research all about a
particular animal from each group we've studied. They are really looking
forward to this! If they want to look more online at home, the web
resources we'll be using will be on the media center page under Destiny.
Book-O-Ween is Friday! The students are very excited to dress as their
favorite story book character and bring their matching book to school. The
Intermediate Center parade is at 8:30 on Friday if you want to watch and take
some scrapbook photos!
In math, we are continuing our multiples of 4 (testing 1 minute on Friday).
We are starting Chapter 6: Division! I'm so proud of how hard our
class works each day in centers and our math rotations! I am seeing
excellent team work and problem solving skills in our classroom.
Thanks for sending in your Box Tops for Education! Every little bit adds up!
