Dear Kindergarten Families

TOP OF MONTH NEWS: ALL FIELD TRIP FORMS AND MONIES ARE DUE ON 3/5, and please see the new MARCH NEWSLETTER below for important dates and information about your child's learning. A Math test in Subtraction will be on March 6th.

FIELD TRIP: Our second field trip will be to the Orlando Repertory Theater on April 6th. All monies and forms are due on MARCH 5th. Please complete and submit both forms with payment. Remember to save the top information portion for your own record. Thank you to all parents who volunteered to chaperone the trip. I regret that we could only draw four parent names, "out of the hat." Please see the PI opportunities below for other ways to get involved here at VCS!

EVENTS: Thank you to the RIF Program for sending clowns to visit our school on 3/5 and giving each student in our class a wonderful story time and a free book to take home to read too!  We will also be having an Egg Hunt to celebrate spring this month on Friday, March 27th.  Students need to bring a basket and pre-filled eggs by 3/24.

PI OPPORTUNITIES:   Volunteers are needed for Guest Readers for our classroom the first week in March to celebrate “Read Across America,” and also for our Spring Egg Hunt on 3/27, so please let me know if you would like to help with either or both of these activities.

MARCH 3RD! On this night, there will be an evening of parent workshops that will give you great information and PI time too! I suggest that both parents attend, so that you can go to as many workshops as possible, and earn PI time!

HOMEWORK:  A packet will typically be put in your child's binder for Monday- Thursday homework. Please have your child complete one activity each day.

To encourage success in Kindergarten, please help your child memorize the sight words on the 100 Club List. Baggie books are sent home on Mondays and must be returned each week by Thursday to participate in this take-home book class program.

Oral counting of numbers 0 to 75 will be assessed at the end of the 3rd nine weeks of school. Students who have master counting to 75 may progress until they have mastered counting 0-100! Practice counting by tens and fives is helpful to develop number sense. Offer opportunities for your student to count objects at home, and encourage them to use an index finger to touch each object as they count.

HOME-SCHOOL COMMUNICATION:

STUDENT SELF HELP: It is winter in Florida, so please make sure that your child wears a VCS uniform jacket or sweatshirt to school every day. Your child also needs one healthy snack in addition to lunch every day. Make sure you review the Student Handbook at the front of your child’s planner for answers to uniform and hair appearance questions, or contact me anytime! At this time of the year, at home practice with shoe tying and fastening and unfastening belts is very important, so that students may eventually demonstrate this skill at school independently, and prepare for First Grade.

PLANNERS: The agenda planner is also where you can write me a note about any changes with dismissal, share a comment, or any question that you may want to ask me. Please make sure to let me know whether your child is going to be at car line or participate in Aftercare each day. If your child is absent, please send in a note explaining the reason for the absence for me to submit to the Main Office.

ATTENDANCE: Please remember also to arrive to school on time. Your child loves to enter our classroom promptly at 7:35am with all their other classmates!
