HOLA!

We are having a blast in Spanish! Kindergarten is working on a new unit called, La familia (The Family).  We will be learning names of family members and how to introduce them. We are also working on the question, "Where do you live?" and answer, "I live in..." (Yo vivo en...").  Our first grade classes are busy reviewing body parts and using the word "tiene" (has).  We are also learning the days of the week and the months of the year in Spanish.

As always, please feel free to e-mail me with any suggestions, questions and/or concerns.

Hasta luego,

♥ Señora Barker

WHAT'S COMING HOME - Look out for these projects we have done in class that will be coming home soon. Have your child share with you what we learned.

KINDERGARTEN:

Los Colores booklets - The colors in the book are in the order of our color song. Ask your child to say or sing the colors to you.

Finger Puppet Arthur - We used Arthur to practice introducing family members.

Color Assessment - Learning the colors will be on-going. This listening assessment helps me know how we are doing with colors and which colors we still need to work on.

FIRST GRADE:

Describing Animals with Colors - Each student was given an animal to color and write a sentence describing the animal using colors.

Mi monstruo (My Monster) book - A book describing a monster using the word "tiene" (has). "My monster has three eyes."

Boy/Girl wearing a sombrero - Students had to label the body parts.

HERE ARE A FEW WAYS TO EARN PI HOURS:

1. I am always in need for a few volunteers that are good at cutting, gluing, and coloring.  I often have this type of work to send home.

2. If you have lived or are from a Spanish speaking country and would like to come in and tell us abou it...we would love it!

3. I can always use small items for Pepe's treasure box!

4. If you would like to come in and spend a few hours, half a day, or all day in the classroom with me...I usually have things to do in the classroom from sharpening pencils, putting student work up/taking it down, organizing papers, etc.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE SHOOT ME AN EMAIL THAT INCLUDES YOUR NAME, YOUR CHILD'S NAME AND TEACHER, AVAILABLE DATE/S AND TIME/S.
