Welcome to physical education at The Villages Charter School. This year I will be working at both the Primary Center and the 4th and 5th Grade Center where your child will experience fitness and fun. Your child and I will work together to set goals and learn more about becoming physically fit. Students come to PE each day for 30 minutes.
Primary Center: During the month of February, primary center students will work through two different units. First, students will be in a Kicking and Trapping unit where they will focus on developing their foot-striking skills, they will practice skills such as dribbling, trapping, kicking for distance, and kicking for accuracy through different games, drills, and activities. These skills are great lead ups to games such as kickball, soccer, and football. Towards the end of the month students will move into a Dribbling, Volleying, and Striking unit where they will be working with different manipulatives striking with body parts, long-handled implements, and short-handled implements through a variety of activities. These skills will help lay a foundation for activities such as basketball, volleyball, and tennis.
4th and 5th Grade Center: At the 4th and 5th Grade center we are moving into our Frisbee Golf unit. Students will learn the different techniques to throw a frisbee (forehand, backhand, flick) and will play several lead up games to practice their skill. At the end of the unit students will play an 18-hole frisbee golf course set up on campus. Each week will consist of 2-3 days of skill related activities that are cohesive with our current unit, as well as 2 days of fitness.
