Dear Parents, families, and students,
Homework: Homework will return to normal this week, with a nighly reading comprehension and math worksheet. Reading homework will focus on the skill of reading comprehension. I ask that you check your child's reading passage to make sure they are underlining and numbering their text evidence to prove their answer. Math homework will focus on the skill they learned about that day in class. I ask that you ALWAYS initial your child's homework. Spelling homework is on Thursday to help them with their spelling test on Friday. Attached below is the Green and Gold list for spelling. Your child will know which list they are on after they take the pre-spelling test on Monday. Homework is due the next day, unless I specify otherwise. Any homework turned in a day late will automatically receive a 60% (unless the child has been absent).
Lowry Park Zoo Field Trip: We are so excited to be going to the Lowry Park Zoo again this year.....it was my favorite field trip last year! Below are some deadlines that you will need to remember for the field trip:
* Date of the field trip - Tuesday, December 13th
* We are leaving school at 8:15 a.m. and returning by 4:00 p.m.
* We will not be brining coolers on this field trip, as the cost for lunch is included in the price, so those students who bring their lunch will be responsible for carrying it around the zoo.
Native American Project: Paperwork was sent home for the Native American Diorama project. Students will be required to make a "museum" display (or diorama) for one of the Native American regions. Your child's letter will have the region they choose from written on it. Project is due on December 12th! NO late projects will be accepted! Below is the paperwork and rubric that I will be using to grade their project. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Accelerated Reading: Just a reminder that students should be testing on AT LEAST two books a week. If you feel your child is ready to take an AR test, please write the complete book title and AR quiz number in your child's reading log, inside the agenda. I am so proud of the students hard work this 1st nine weeks to reach their AR goals. Look for more information to come on a dress down day for those students who reached their goals this 1st nine weeks. Please remember, your child's AR goal for the 2nd nine weeks will be set this week, and it will be recorded on their AR tracking sheet located in their binder. Students will need to maintain an 80% comprehension on their AR tests for recognition of completion of goal. You can check your childs AR progress by logging onto the AR connection page to see their progress so far for this nine weeks. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.
Boxtops for Education: Our class is collecting Box Tops for education! Did you know that for every Box Top you send in our school earns 10¢? It's as simple as clipping Box Tops and sending them to school in your child's folder in a sealed baggy. We'll take care of the rest! Thanks for all you do!
I really appreciate all you will do to help make this year amazing! If you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know.
