This Friday, October 31st is Book-O-Ween! Please remember to send your child to school with a book to match his or her costume, as well as athletic shoes for P.E. We will also take our weekly reading and spelling tests on Thursday of this week. On Friday, we will rotate with other first grade classes to complete fun literacy activities with fall and Halloween themes.
This week in class, our language arts phonics focus will be reading and writing words with consonant digraphs ch, tch, wh, and ph. We will also learn how to make plural nouns with -es. Our literature focus will be reading and responding to fiction and non-fiction books about bats.
In math we will start chapter 5, combining addition and subtraction strategies. We are also working in math centers to build fluency with math facts. Please continue to check your
child’s math homework every evening and make sure it is placed back in the
front of his or her binder.
We are off to a wonderful start to our school year,
and it has been a pleasure getting to know your families better. Please remember to return your conference scheduling forms so that I can begin meeting with you soon to discuss your child's progress and individual goals for the future.
Have a great week!
