Reminder: Garbage Monster projects are due this Wednesday, April 22nd. Please remember to help your child complete the written portion of the project and practice what he/she will present orally to the class.
This week in language arts we will introduce silent consonant spelling patterns kn, gn, & wr. We will also review compound words and learn about similes as we complete a fun poetry project. Our literature focus will be identifying cause & effect relationships in fiction and nonfiction texts about the weather. Please continue to read baggie books together with your child every night. Discussing books and talking about new vocabulary words is a great way to build your child's reading comprehension skills!
In math, we will review two-dimensional shapes and take the chapter 12 math test. We will also review previously learned skills through hands-on centers and whole group activities in preparation for DEA testing.
This week in science we will learn about Earth Day and ways to take care natural resources. Students will also present their Garbage Monster projects to the class.
Thank you for your continued support at home. It makes all the difference when students arrive at school well-rested, happy, and ready to learn! I will be sending home reminders for parent conference, but if you need to reschedule for any reason just send me an e-mail or note in your child's agenda. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child's progress in first grade and preparations for the coming year.
