Where is the time going? We are already at progress report time here in the third nine weeks! There are only 70 days left in first grade...time really does fly when you're having fun!
This month not only brings 6 more weeks of winter, but it also means Dental Health and lots and lots of animals! We are learning about animals, as well as plants, this month in science. We will also get a visit from some Dental Health professionals to learn about how to properly take care of our teeth. Additionally, students will get a visit from FFW to wrap up our unit on animals. What a fun month!
Since Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday, we will have a small celebration on Friday, February 13th. Please feel free to send in a class set of valentines or friendship notes for all students in our class before this date (small sweets are also allowed if you would like). There is a class list on this page if you are interested in labeling the goodies with students' names.
For progress reports, electronic copies will be used this nine weeks. There will only be paper copies sent home upon request. Skyward is constantly updated to reflect your child's most current grades so please check it frequently and let me know if there are any questions or concerns.
The field trip deadline is approaching! Please make sure all paperwork and payments have been turned in by the end of the month if you would like for your child to attend. It is truly a WONDERFUL trip and students talk about it for months!
I would like to encourage parents to make sure that students are practicing tying their shoes at home. This is actually a first grade standard for P.E. and students will be tested on this skill later in the year. Many students are already able to do this, but some are still working on it. Thank you for your support with this!
As always, please continue to read baggy books, complete reading notebooks, and work on library books at home! Your children are doing a great job with this new challenge! Also, please continue to support your children with the reading comprehension homework on Tuesday nights. I ask that you please let your student try to do this on his/her own before you check and help. This gives them an opportunity to learn and grow!
Please let me know if you have ANY questions as our year goes on. I am always available via email (see link below). You and I are a team, and I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to work with you and your child. I am looking forward to a great year with you! We are going to have so much fun!
