Welcome to 7th Grade Civics and Economics! Brace yourself for a challenging year of what we hope will contain many positive educational experiences for you. By the end of this school year, you will have gained considerable knowledge and will be able to see the world more clearly so that the impact you will make upon it will have greater significance. I am looking forward to sharing this year with you and helping you succeed not only in this course, but in life as well - as you apply what you will learn to many of life's situations and better yourself as well as society.
During these last two months of the school year, students will dive into the history of money, the function of the Federal Reserve, and also examine the connection our country has to the world concerning trade and other foreign affairs. Students will also participate in another mock jury trial - though this time we will conduct a civil trial rather than a criminal one.
All throughout the month of April, students will start the class period with a short assignment reviewing Civics in preparation for the state exam on May 4th. For additional preparation for the state exam, students can go to the USA Test Prep site (see link below) even from home and click on the Civics "Final Practice Test" where they can check their answers after they are finished and see the explanations for why they may have gotten something incorrect. Their account ID is buffalo48. They should know their username and password. If they do not, they can see me for it and I'll get it for them.
The next bi-weekly homework due date is 5/6. Students now have three options: 1) Current events summary/Political cartoon analysis, 2) Community service hour/Service form completed, 3) Stock Market tables (see both pdf files below). Each option is worth 15 points.
