2015- 2016 Welcome to another fabulous year at VCMS!
This objective of this class is to utilize curriculum
which supports the needs of the struggling and/or hesitant reader.
Students in my double block (8th graders in 3rd
& 4th periods) will be using the “Language!” curriculum. Daily
lessons will include phonics, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, speaking,
& writing. This class will utilize peer interaction & teaching,
independent activities, centers, and in-class projects.
My 1st and 5th – 7th
period classes will be using the “Journeys” curriculum. Daily lessons will include word study,
fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Each lesson is integrated into
content-area texts (science and social studies). We will focus on writing skills several days a week.
AR goals: follow the guide on page 20 in your student agenda handbook.
My students are required to earn 8 points per
9 weeks. Points may be raised or lowered depending on student achievement. Intensive Reading students have more
flexibility in their book choices. For example, books that are read to them are
allowed. (Only one per 9 weeks)
AR will constitute 20% of the student’s grade
in my class.
