Still waiting for the return of my panda, hedgehog, and whale figures.
Chapter 5 Test Analysis and Corrections are due by Friday of this week. If you earned less than 70% on the test, corrections are NOT optional.
Quarter 2 Project information was given to all students this week. The student selected the recipe of his/her choice last week and received the copy of the recipe and the project rubric on Monday. Families: the student is required to follow an Early American recipe as written and take pictures throughout the experience that show his/her progress - so it is possible that some assistance will be necessary at home - and the student does need at least one person to "volunteer" to taste his/her creation :-).
After the actual cooking is complete, the student will be writing reflections (should be done at the same time as the cooking) and then writing a compare/contrast review before compiling all the information into a PowerPoint. Everything past the point of cooking can be completed in class with me at school.
If you anticipate having any issues accommodating this, please contact me as soon as possible so that we can work something out. I strongly encouraged the students to take advantage of Fall Break next week to complete the "home" work part of the project. I also gave fair warning to the students: this project absolutely CANNOT BE DONE IN ONE DAY so it will be a huge mistake to put it off. As noted on the rubric, they have four weeks to complete the work so there should be plenty of opportunities to fit in the cooking at home part of the project. We will have two in-class work days scheduled after break to work on the PowerPoint, if students aren't ready to participate on those days then it will be their responsibility to find time outside of class to complete the work. As a reminder, the media center is open everyday until 4:00pm and the computer lab is open everyday from 3:15pm-5:15pm. If your student does not stay in aftercare, please be aware that these options can be used without paying an aftercare fee as long as the student is picked up by the ending time - if you are not there on time then the supervising teacher will check your student into aftercare and then fees will be charged.
This project is due, without exception, by Monday, December 14th.
1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th Period: We are planning to complete lessons 6-1, 6-2 and possibly 6-3 this week.
** Please continue to encourage your student to do the work necessary to be prepared to participate in class discussions. Please know that your student will be writing in the "Homework Excuse Book" if they are not ready to participate in class. This has not been a good week for being prepared.
3rd and 7th Period: Initially the plan was to open book test on Chapter 6 this week, however due to the varying schedules that the students have, we will NOT be able to accomplish that. All regular chapter work will be completed by Friday and we will review upon return from break.
Quizlet should be used to prepare for Chapter tests. There is also an app that can be loaded on any Apple or Android device for practice "on the go".
