We will work together this week to read, text map, outline and organize an argumentative essay. This year your child will be taking a writing FSA test. They will be faced with either an argumentative task or an informative task. As we start argumentative writing we will work through a task together. I will model how to plan, outline, and construct an essay. At the end of the nine weeks they will be given one to do on their own. This will give me an opportunity to see what areas need more focus and which areas they have mastered. In the 8th grade standards students must not only provide a claim with reasons in their argumentative writing but they must also insert multiple counterclaims and give evidence from the text to prove how that counterclaim is invalid or not as strong as their claim to make their argument stronger. They are facing a big task in front of them as we tackle this writing but I know they can do it. I do ask that you be patient with the process as it takes time to master this type of writing.
