6th Grade Language Arts - Unit One will focus on the Reading Literature standards. We will practice using the online program LearnZillion and refresh our writing skills in the area of writing with text evidence when answering a text dependent question. We will enjoy several selections from our Pearson textbook and practice writing to the literature standards. We will start working on answering text-dependent questions that are related to the story Zlateh the Goat. Your child will have a small research assignment in which they will need to research the historical significance of Hanukkah. They will then answer a question related to our selection Zlateh the Goat based upon their research.
8th Grade US History:
As we move into our second unit of study in US History we will focus on the British Colonies that were created in North America. We will discuss the first attempts to colonize focusing on Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plimoth (original spelling) before looking further into the 13 colonies. Your child will have a project during this unit so be on the lookout for more information regarding the project soon. Students will be working on an essay about the "Starving Time" of Jamestown this week. The typed essay is due Friday, September 12th. We will plan the essay together and the students will need to transfer the outline into a five-paragraph essay.
