6th Grade Language Arts - Unit One will focus on the Reading Literature standards. We are starting to wrap up Unit 1. As this unit comes to a close we will have one last activity to make sure our understanding of story elements is solid. Students will be creating a foldable of the story mountain that we learned earlier in this unit. They will then choose a story from the textbook that we have read (Zlateh the Goat, The Circuit, Lob's Girl, or Jeremiah's Song) and they will use the elements of that story to fill in their story mountain. They will then write a summary of that story distinct from personal opinions or judgments using their foldable to guide them. The summary will be written in class on Monday.
8th Grade US History:
During our Unit 4 we will be studying the road to the revolution. We will see how The French and Indian War had a big impact on the American Revolution. We will analyze significant events and people during this period of time in colonial history that led the 13 colonies into armed conflict with Britain. We will look at the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Massacre, and the First Continental Congress, and those many taxes and acts that the colonists hated. The 2nd nine weeks project will be based on those acts/taxes. Students are currently working on a political cartoon homework assignment that is due on Monday, October 27th. They need to choose one issue of the three choices I gave them and create a political cartoon based on that issue arguing their point of view. They must also write a paragraph about the cartoon expressing their opinion on the issue.
