6th Grade Language Arts - Our focus will be on argumentative writing as we start the 3rd nine weeks. Students will learn the four main parts of an argumentative essay by breaking down example essays before writing their own. We will continue to work on our informative writing skills as well to make sure we are ready for the writing test in March. Both types of essays are similar in structure so the students should take what they know about informative/explanatory writing and apply it to argumentative writing. Attached below you can find the rubric provided by the state that will be used to assess informative writing and the rubric for argumentative writing.
8th Grade US History:
During Unit Six we will be learning about the Constitution. We will start the unit by looking at the first plan of government the colonies used which was called the "Articles of Confederation." By examining why this first plan failed we will see some important weaknesses that needed to be addressed in order to create a functional government. Next, we will identify two important groups that emerged as the Constitution was being developed, the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists. Finally, we will consider some specific amendments to the Constitution including the Bill of Rights and how those amendments effect us today.
