We are in full swing in November with our speech sounds and language. Something to think about:
Phonetics: The branch of linguistics concerned with spoken sounds.
Using phonics to teach reading involves teaching the beginner the sounds associated with the letters of the alphabet before introducing written words. The beginner learns to analyze words by comparing the letters in them to the sounds they represent. Another term, phonology, refers to the study of speech sounds themselves. Phonology encompasses rules governing pronunciation in a given language. A phoneme is a unit of sound that cannot be analyzed into smaller units and can distinguish one word from another. This helps to know the difference between speech - or saying individual sounds - vs. reading words.
I'm housed at the Middle School, but I also float around campus serving 4th-5th, Middle School & High School students. If you are at the Middle School, speech therapy will be Wednesdays and Fridays. If you are at the 4/5 bldg, your therapy will be on Mondays and Thursdays. Please feel free to contact me either by phone or by e-mail with any questions or concerns regarding your child's speech and/or language program.
Looking to get some PI time? I am in need of a few supplies.
If you can fulfill any of these needs, I would be so appreciative. Just send the item into school with your child with a note stating the dollar amount and my name or Speech. Their classroom teacher will pass it along to me.
